Hot Tub Filters and How To Clean Them

Posted by Ken Scheer on Dec 05, 2016

In most parts of the county, cooler temps are in full swing and unless you a have a heater on your swimming pool, it's no longer in use. Hot tubs can be a great way to relax after a long day, relieve tight muscles and of course a great way to warm up (until you get out of course). Filters are necessary for your hot tub but should be cleaned pretty regularly to keep your water looking good and clean. Cartridge filters are the most common type of filter seen in hot tubs and we want to make sure we give you a few tips on how to keep them clean.

Cleaning the filters with water is by far the simplest and easiest way to clean a cartridge filter. You can rinse them with a garden hose or in a sink if they fit. You will want to make sure you spread apart each pleat and rinse well between each of them to get out hair, dirt, or any other debris. If you use your hot tub regularly, we recommend rinsing them off once a week.

There are hot tub filter cleaners and chemicals that can be used. These cleaners can be sprayed on the filter and rinsed off or the filter can be soaked in a 5 gallon bucket. Whenever you clean the filters, make sure to inspect the pleats for tears or any damage to the casings that would prevent the filters to work appropriately.
